Very useful when fish take not-yet-emerged flies near the water surface. Once cast 45° upstream and let sink as much as possible, it should be retrieved with very small but quick strikes to emulate the struggling movement of the insect trying to reach the open air. The heavier the copper wire, the deeper the fly will go to fit the various depths of fish activity.
